A THEMATIC APPROACH
Monthly themes provide exciting direction and cohesion to our daily teaching in both classrooms. A structured yet flexible rhythm allows children to confidently anticipate their day, offering security as we introduce age-appropriate concepts at their own pace. As children transition into preschool, we build on these basics using the Handwriting Without Tears curriculum.
This classroom learning is balanced with creative self-expression through music, dance, and open-ended art. Additionally, exposure to foreign languages and cultural traditions cultivates a warm appreciation for diversity, while active play—indoors and out—encourages imagination and strengthens physical coordination.
“I CAN DO IT”
The enthusiasm of our teachers is reflected in the excitement of our children. Throughout each day, we actively promote an “I CAN DO IT!” attitude, celebrating the small victories that build everyday independence and personal confidence. Children learn and discover through a wide variety of hands-on activities that prove learning is truly fun.
The success of this philosophy relies on a collaborative model, where parents and teachers share observations to continually tailor the classroom experience to meet each child’s unique needs.
SMARTBOARD
At Whitefish Community School, we utilize a SMART Board on a semi-daily basis as an active, hands-on tool to enhance our curriculum. Rather than passive viewing, children interact directly with the touch-controlled screen to play collaborative educational games, practice early math and reading skills, and explore diverse music, literature, and theme-based content that brings the wider world right into our Whitefish classrooms.
We are highly mindful of screen-time guidelines. The SMART Board is strictly used for interactive, teacher-guided educational purposes—never for passive, non-educational videos or games—and daily screen-time is carefully minimized to ensure plenty of time is kept for active, hands-on play.
